Subtitling QC Scheduler

At VSI, we are looking for a flexible professional to join us in the new role of Subtitling QC Scheduler. Reporting to the Subtitling QC Lead, you will be tasked with managing the QC schedule and placing work with our internal and external resources to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of QCed subtitle, FN and cc files for a growing number of clients.

You will need to be technically minded to use the various tools, Media Asset Management (MAM), Ooona and Windows-based software applications, have an understanding of subtitling workflows and subtitling tools from the user perspective. You will be solution-focused and have strong communication skills. You will need to speak English to a mother-tongue standard, have excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage the demands of a fast-paced environment, and have demonstrable experience in working to tight deadlines.

This remote position has a timetable of 9:30 UK (GMT/BST) to 18:00 UK (GMT/BST). The role may be required to work beyond regular hours, depending on business needs or during peak periods.

About the role: 

  • Responding to PM QC requests, updating the QC schedule, and negotiating deadlines where necessary
  • Monitoring Ooona pool tasks and QC schedule and ensuring both are up-to-date and consolidated at all times
  • Proactively following up with in-house QCers to make sure work is being picked up and completed in time to meet deadlines and/or escalate to QC Lead and/or PM as necessary
  • Proactively following up with PMs when there are missing materials and/or where ETA dates have lapsed
  • Liaising and placing work with our freelance QC team, sending material via MAM, and delivering QCed files to PMs
  • Supporting the Subtitling QC Lead with:
    • listing and testing any development features as related to QC tools and liaising with dev teams as necessary
    • implementing new processes, tools and initiatives, and managing the impact of those changes on the teams
    • monitoring team utilisation & capacity, identifying gaps in resources and assisting the training of new team members on QC management
  • Making sound independent decisions, and knowing when to escalate issues
  • As and when required of the company:
    • Providing ad-hoc administrative support as required by the team and the company
    • Technical QC and fixing of subtitle and CC files
    • File prepping and conversions/exports
    • Providing linguistic assistance to other departments
    • Subtitling QC-related tool testing, providing super-user experience support and feedback as required

About you:

  • Proven experience in scheduling
  • Subtitling background and understanding of subtitling workflows, specs and deliverables
  • English mother tongue/Command of English to mother-tongue standard
  • A solution-focused attitude

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment

  • OOONA Manager experience a big advantage
  • Subtitling/QC experience a plus
