David Attenborough’s latest nature documentary series, Life in Colour, takes viewers on an exhilarating expedition through the eyes of animals in the wild. A co-production between Netflix, BBC, Channel 9 and Screen Australia, the docuseries explores the remarkable ways in which colours are interpreted by different species and how animals are reliant on them for survival. Whether used to attract partners, defeat their competition during mating season or send out a warning signal to enemies, colours play an important role in animals’ lives.

With the use of pioneering, state-of-the-art technology, the three one-hour episodes of Life in Colour offer spectacular and unique footage of the animal kingdom like never before. New camera technology unveils colours and patterns that were previously invisible to the human eye. VSI collaborated with Netflix on the innovative series to produce voice-overs in French, Italian, German, Castilian Spanish, Turkish, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Our approach

After working with Netflix on Our Planet, another David Attenborough production, we were excited to team up again on Life in Colour. We worked with the established voices for David Attenborough in each territory to deliver a viewing experience as close to the original as possible.

The project was a global collaboration across VSI’s Netflix Post Partner Program (NP3) member studios in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, Istanbul, Warsaw and São Paulo.

Outcome

We were excited to see Life in Colour launch on Earth Day, in multiple territories, such as France, Italy, Germany and Spain. We look forward to continuing to work with Netflix on more of their ground-breaking documentaries.
