Group Financial Controller

The Group has grown rapidly over the last few years and is establishing a Group Controllership function to deliver monthly consolidated accounts and consistent management information to the directors, and ensure appropriate controls are in place across subsidiaries. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Finance team to lead the development of this function.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the successful candidate will work with local finance teams across the Group’s subsidiaries to produce monthly consolidated accounts and management information. Consistency of information will be underpinned by the rollout of the Group finance system in new locations, as well as the establishment of Group accounting and reporting policies.

About the role: 

Consolidated statutory and management accounts (60%)

  • Responsible for gathering and consolidating accounting data from the Group subsidiaries and associates on a monthly basis (incl. intercompany eliminations)
  • Responsible for ensuring local accounting data is consistently reported and mapped to the Group chart of accounts, in order to allow meaningful analysis
  • Responsible for establishing Group accounting and reporting policies, and ensuring their consistent application across all subsidiaries (e.g. revenue and cost recognition, foreign exchange transactions, activity-based costing, etc.)
  • Responsible for delivering Group management accounts to Group directors and FP&A, in accordance with their requirements (incl. reporting revenue by service/customer/language and reporting cost by nature/project/function)
  • Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Group audit and preparation of the annual Group statutory accounts

Implementation and administration of financial information system (25%)

  • Support the rollout of the Group financial system across subsidiaries
  • Define common best practices and processes for the use of the system
  • Identify and nurture key users across locations who are subject-matter experts for each of the key process areas, and who can ensure best practices are followed and embedded controls are complied with
  • Ensure the initial implementation and use of the system over time are consistent across locations, to enable simpler processes, efficiencies and coherent information

Shared services and internal controls (15%)

  • Contribute to the definition of the Finance shared services strategy and execute it across functions that are relevant to the Group controllership (e.g. OTC/PTP, treasury, etc.) in order to improve value for money and quality of delivery
  • Review, improve and ensure the effective operation of internal controls across the Group
  • Support the establishment of a Group or shared services finance function

About you:

Financial accounting and reporting: Advanced

  • Demonstrate advanced-level understanding of accounting standards
  • Oversee accounting standards selected and implemented by the company
  • Develop, manage and execute plans for implementation of new or updated accounting and reporting pronouncements; identify potential issues associated with proposed accounting and reporting rules
  • Identify potential issues associated with unusual or complex transactions; review and approve the appropriate treatment
  • Strategically lead implementation of the design and function of the organisation's chart of accounts according to best practice
  • Ensure integrity, accuracy and completeness of all financial statements; discuss the need for and nature of appropriate disclosures
  • Implement efficient process changes consistent with best practices; create a corporate culture of compliance and shared accountability to ensure full organisation compliance
  • Management reporting and cost accounting: Advanced

  • Implement and apply advanced costing techniques and discern whether costing techniques used by the organisation are appropriate
  • Discuss and recommend transfer pricing systems and evaluate effect of transfer prices
  • Lead the development of functional reporting systems, for management, project or performance reporting
  • Challenge and make fundamental changes to address root causes of management information and report quality/correctness issues

Accounting information systems: Advanced

  • Proactively share knowledge across the business to streamline systems
  • Develop and maintain computer literacy on applications critical to the effectiveness and efficiency of internal accounting processes and procedures
  • Secure in-depth understanding of functionality (i.e. knows what the right answer is and how data should flow)
  • Participate in the functional development and specifications of new IT solutions in the accounting area
  • Recommend new systems to automate existing processes and ways to re-engineer business processes to effectively use new technology

Internal controls: Advanced

  • Establish processes to monitor compliance and effectiveness of financial controls in line with the organisation's methodology.  Identify, develop and implement process improvements where needed
  • Manage, remediate and enforce compliance procedures; define and implement end-to-end user access management processes and standards, covering role design, access provisioning, monitoring and remediation
  • Define fit-for-purpose control frameworks and ensure implementation and full compliance of control policies across organisation
  • Drive integration and standardisation of risk management processes across the organisation, including user access management processes which make optimal use of system controls that are available
  • Advise on the application of the organisation's risk management policies and industry best practices, and construct organisation guidelines

Treasury management: Advanced

  • Advise business units in the implementation, execution and analysis of corporate treasury policies; assess key operational treasury risks; design and implement risk-based mitigation
  • Assist and provide strategic oversight on the implementation and execution of corporate treasury policies for the organisation
