Information Technology Infrastructure Manager

You will be responsible for the management of the IT service’s infrastructure: managing the company’s day-to-day technology infrastructure and ensuring compliance with standards and industry regulations. You will also manage a small team of IT professionals who will be the first point of contact for service-desk queries.

About the role: 

  • Service Desk: Managing the IT team to support day-to-day incidents and requests, and providing support to the IT team on escalations
  • Systems management: Leading the IT team with a hands-on approach to ensure the infrastructure is accessible and performs; working with the IT Director to lead and implement the best systems and practises to improve availability, control changes, implement repeatable processes and adequately measure and manage risks
  • Networking: Managing network security controls, identifying potential threats and weaknesses; measuring performance utilisation to optimise access and availability of systems
  • Business continuity: Working with the IT Director to ensure the effective delivery of the disaster recovery plan to ensures systems are recoverable; identify and develop documentation, creating test procedures and define resources to deliver business continuity in the event of an accident, disaster, emergency, outage, or threat
  • Information security and data protection: Working with the IT Director on the implementation of frameworks to protect the IT services, data availability, privacy and integrity, and to ensure that client and personal information is handled properly
  • Change management: Working with the IT Director to manage stakeholders and IT, to ensure changes are managed and implemented with the full support of the business and to minimise impact
  • Budget control: Managing and delivering to the IT budget; reviewing and optimising current costs and achieving cost-saving through contract consolidation and negotiation where possible
  • Project management: Planning, prioritising and resourcing to support project delivery, and identifying solutions to manage resource conflicts and shortfalls
  • Team Management: Managing, developing, mentoring and supporting a small team, ensuring that they remain accountable for delivering a high standard of service to the business

About you:

  • Proven experience as a hands-on Infrastructure Manager or in a similar role, or this may suit a motivated candidate hoping to move up from Infrastructure Engineer
  • Experience of managing a small team of 2-3 IT professionals
  • Solid hands-on experience of VMware (vSphere and vCenter), Palo Alto firewalls, Linux system administration, storage platforms (ideally Qumulo, Nimble and Quantum Xcellis), and routing and switching (ideally Mellanox and Ruckus)
  • Knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO27001 accreditations
  • Experience of managing Aspera file-transfer system
  • Experience in managing an information technology budget
  • Good command-line skills with good scripting experience (Linux, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Demonstrable experience, qualifications and skills in general switching and routing support, configuration and management of Palo Alto firewalls
  • The ability to influence and constructively challenge the business

  • Robust and agile decision-making skills
  • Excellent organisational, multi-tasking, planning and risk management skills and the ability to delegate responsibilities effectively
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and understanding of body language techniques
  • Professional demeanour, leads by example and acts with honesty, discretion and integrity at all times

Essential Qualifications

  • Palo Alto Firewall certification
  • VMware certification
  • CCNA or equivalent
  • ITIL Foundation or above

Desired Skills and Experience

  • ITIL Practitioner
  • Windows Server
  • Understanding of voice systems
  • Excel and Power BI
  • AWS
  • Python, Groovy or similar development languages
  • Prince2 or equivalent
