VSI London – Sumat Project

VSI is participating in an exciting new EU-funded project which aims to build a machine translation engine for subtitles.

The Sumat project is due to run from 2011-2014 and will result in an online statistical machine translation system translating between the following language pairs:

•    English<->German
•    English<->French
•    English<->Spanish
•    English<->Dutch
•    English<->Swedish
•    English<->Portuguese
•    Slovenian<->Serbian

The output of the system will require human post-editing, and the projected savings in production time will be known later in the project. The project consortium includes research partners and subtitling companies from all over Europe.
